About this Organisation:

Federal Ministry for Education and Research has many different tasks at national level within the framework of its responsibilities under the Basic Law. They include:

  • legislative, policy and coordination tasks for non-school initial and continuing vocational training
  • research promotion  
  • legislation on training assistance and the funding thereof (in conjunction with the Länder)
  • promotion of gifted school students, trainees and students and fostering of young scientific talent
  • promotion of international exchanges of trainees, students, persons taking part in continuing education, instructors as well as scientists
  • assuring and developing the quality of the structure and context vocational education and training by legal legislation (Vocational Training Act), developing training regulations, promote studies and research in the field of VET, launching programmes and pilot projects to develop instruments for quality assurance in-company training

Mr. Kreher studied chemical engineering and protestant theology at the technical university in Darmstadt and graduated as a teacher for vocational schools in 1977. Since 1990 he worked as an inspector and since 2006 he is the vocational representative of Hessen to the standing board of vocational experts of the German Laender. He was responsible for many projects, i.e. developing guidance and regulations for quality assurance in self governed vocational schools. Furthermore, he represents the Laender in several European working groups, such as General Directors for vocational education and lifelong learning, ENQA-VET 2007 - 2009, EQAVET and ECVET.
